Bridge Building
* In teams of 4-5, research the four different bridge designs
- arch
- truss
- suspension
- beam
* Decide what type of bridge your engineering team will build
* Make a plan, explain why you chose that particular design
* Draw a plan for your bridge, be sure to lable it and list the supplies you will need
- each team will get 50 straws, tape, and yarn
* Your objective is to build a bridge that can hold the most weight
* After your first trial, you will be given the opportunity to modify your design for a second round of tests
* You will have 30 minutes to build - every team member is valuable to the design process, all must be involved in the building

Float a Boat
* In teams of 4-5, research materials for buoyancy
* Design a boat
* Make a plan, explain why you chose that particular design
* Draw a plan for your boat, be sure to lable it and list the supplies you will need
- each team will get 1 sheet of paper, 1 sheet of aluminum foil, 10 craft sticks, 3 marshmallows, 2 pipe cleaners, and 5 straws
* Your objective is to design a boat that will float across the water in the quickest time without sinking
* After your first trial, you will be given the opportunity to modify your design for a second round of tests
* You will have 8 minutes to build - every team member is valuable to the design process, all must be involved in the building
* Your boat must cross the water in less than 2 minutes

The MIGHTY Tower
* Using only 6 sheets of paper and 10 inches of tape create a tower
* The tower must be
- free standing
- sit 12 inches off the table
- able to hold a text book for 20 seconds
* Your challenge is to build a tower that can hold the MOST weight
* You will have 15 minutes to build - then we will test the towers - then you will have 10 minutes to make adjustments and test again
---think about structure, distribution of weight, a strong foundation---

Marshmallow Catapult
* Using only 5-10 craft sticks and 10 rubber bands, create a catapult that can project a marshmallow bunny the farthest
* Research different catapult designs
* Create two separate plans - you will make and test both designs
* After two launches, you will be able to modify your design
** These boys created a catapult that launched their marshmallow bunny from one side of the classroom to the other! **
