WORDS TO KNOW 1. tissue - a group of the same kind of cells that work together to do the same job 2. organ - a group of differnt tissues that join together into one structure 3. systems - a set of things that work together as a whole 4. circulatory system - moves blood through the body 5. heart - a muscular organ that pumps blood throughout your body
PARTS OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM 1. heart 2. blood 3. blood vessels
* smallest living part of your body is called a CELL (the basic unit of all living things)
A SYSTEM OF TEAMWORK - Cells work together to build tissues - Tissues work together to build organs that do a main job for your body - Organs work togther to form organ systems
HEART * pumps blood throughout the body * the heart has FOUR CHAMBERS 1. right ventricle - pumps blood to lungs 2. left ventricle - pumps oxygenated blood to the body 3. right atria - blood enters the heart here 4. left atria - gets oxygen rich blood from lungs
BLOOD VESSELS 1. arteries - carry blood with lots of oxygen AWAY from the heart - they have thick, muscular walls - branch out into many other smaller tubes 2. capillaries - smallest kind of blood vessel - very thin walls that allow oxygen and nutrients to move INTO the body's cells - carbon dioxide and waste move OUT OF cells into the capillaries - join together to form smallest veins 3. veins - blood vessels that transport blood TOWARD the heart - veins have valves that keep the blood moving in only one direction - they OPEN to let blood flow TO the heart and CLOSE if blood starts to flow AWAY from the heart

PARTS OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM 1. nose 2. pharynx 3. epiglottis 4. larynx 5. vocal cords 6. trachea 7. bronchial tree 8. lungs 9. alveoli 10. diaphragm
Lesson 3 What are the skeletal and muscular systems?
WORDS TO KNOW 1. skeletal system: a system that is made up of bones that support your body and help you move 2. skeleton: made up of all the bones in your body 3. muscles: organs taht work together to move your body 4. muscular system: made up of the muscles and the tissues that attach them to the bones
