Using Google Draw - Create an Infographic on a Given Explorer of the 1400-1500's

Lesson 2: Explorers for Spain
Objective: *Explain that King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain were motivated to send explorers to the Americas by a desire for profit and to spread Christianity
* Describe how Columbus sailed west hoping to reach Asia but landed on a continent previously unknown to most Europeans
* Summarize the efforts of Spanish explorers following Columbus to search the Americas for sources of wealth and also to conquer native peoples in the name of Spain
* Define the term colony and describe how Spain started colonies in the Americas

-Ferdinand Magellan, strait to the Pacific Ocean, Philippines, killed in battler, crew were first to circumnavigate
-Juan Ponce de Leon, Puerto Rico looking for Fountain of Youth, traveled to Florida at Easter time, all the beautiful flowers he called the land Pescua Florida, never found the fountain
-Hernando de Soto, traveled all throughout the southeastern United States learning a lot about the land
-Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, wanted to search for treasure in the Americas, traveled throughout present day New Mexico and Arizona, found no treasure but discovered the Grand Canyon

Objective: * Define Columbian Exchange as an interchange of cultures and goods between Europeans, Native Americans, and Africans following Columbus' exploration
* Analyze the consequences of the Columbian Exchange, both positive and negative
* Draw conclusions about the lasting impact of the Columbian Exchange on the cultures of European, Native American, and African peoples
